Stage 1 qualifying began at Formby Hall Golf Club. I arrived two days prior to the event to squeeze an extra round of golf in, to get used to the golf course and create a strategy to give myself a good chance to play well.
Day 1 wasn't the best start to the tournament with a score of 78 (+6) , I played some steady golf but made some poor swings on the tee shots which cost me. I knew I had my work cut out on day 2, I told myself to stay patient and not take any unnecessary risks. After a slow start to my second round, nerves started to kick in and my mind was always wondering what I needed to shoot to make the cut! I stayed in the presence and didn't try to think too much of the outcome and had a very nice finish to my round birding 15,16 and 17 to post a round of 72 which secured my spot for final qualifying which was a huge relief!
Frilford Heath Golf Club was the final stage venue, my first round began on the Red Course, it is a great golf course to say the least! After a steady round of 71 (-1) I was pleased with how I played. I started round two off to a great start scoring 33 threw 9 holes, unfortunately I couldn't say the same about the back nine. Following my 71 with a (+2) round of 74 I missed the cut by one shot.
I learnt a lot about myself and my golf game this week, I have took lots of positives from this experience and will be working on my weaknesses hard before the season starts to commence.
